Glenn Goldberg’s paintings of birds and flowers are bright accumulations of colorful pointillist dots that bring to mind both samplers and mandalas. This show includes pieces large (for him) and small, and adds fluid-filled, blown-glass sculptures that look like a cross between ritual instruments and toys. The effect is disciplined and pixilated, like a spring picnic with a shaman.

Glenn Goldberg makes a strong case for the whimsical and the poetic. In a time when much of what is exhibited feels generalized, slick, and superficial, Goldberg offers a romantic approach to painting that feels honest and inspired. With a sensitivity that reminds us of Paul Klee, he succeeds in combining playful forms with a tantalizing sensibility for nuances of light and color.
